volunteering = weight gain?

Today was my first day volunteering at NewSpring. I did a little camera work and started learning the ropes. Everyone was very encouraging. What a great team. I had a blast.
Another impressive sight is the amount of food that's tucked away in volunteer headquarters. (I'm seriously wondering how many pounds I'm gonna put on in the future.) I'm talkin' bagels with cream cheese, krispy kreme doughnuts (random...how sad is it that they're going out of business? that SUCKS!!), coffee, water, juice, milk...you name it! (and that's just the morning). In the afternoon they have pizza, cake, more doughnuts, soda, more coffee (i mean,.... 4 services? you gotta have it).
Why go through all that trouble? It's easy. NewSpring cares about their volunteers. They care because they realize the importance of service and getting members plugged in. Perry wrote an entry on his blog a little over a year ago giving his thoughts on volunteering. I'm sure his opinion hasn't changed much. You can read it here.

**UPDATE**
Okay, I need to settle this Krispy Kreme thing before someone goes nuts. It turns out that a friend told me they were going out of business. I can neither confirm or deny that this is true. Has anyone else heard of this?

Runsilent

If you enjoyed the music from the reel that I posted a few days ago, Runsilent is offering them up for free download. No, really... i know it looks sketch, but he said it was okay, promise.

Why’d the Chicken Cross the Road

I swear this happened to me today. I pull out of my residence hall parking lot to see this...
Chicken
To put an end to the age-old question, the chicken really does cross the road to get to the other side.
Chillin CHKN
(if you can't see him in the 2nd pic, trust me, he's there.

My New Toy

Get 'em while they're hot! 22" Westinghouse LCD monitors @ Best Buy for $269 (previously $350-$400). There were 2 left when I got there this morning, but they're also on sale online.New Toy

I've been in the market for one for a while (this same monitor was on sale Black Friday '06, but I didn't get there in time). With all of the video stuff I've been doing lately, I couldn't pass this up. My 15" laptop wasn't cutting it.

Dance Recitals - Day 4

Been real busy this week working dance recitals in Henderson Auditorium (RFAC). I put in a few 10-12 hour days. Tonight is show 1 of 2 for Anderson School of Dance.

Sunday morning I got up super early and drove back home to surprise my mom for Mother's Day. Needless to say, she was very happy to see me.

Giving up the computer for a day wasn't so bad. I spent the time with friends, and...well, working. I must confess that I stayed up to almost midnight to check email and read up on the days news. :) kinda sad really. Which just proves that I need to continue to do this.

For today's linkage i bring you Onesize. Be sure to look at their reel. I love the little opening bit with the ribbons going in and out of the floor.

Noise

"We're addictive creatures. We try things, we experiment, we explore, and certain things hook us...What started out as freedom can quickly become slavery. Often freedom is seen as the ability to do whatever you want. But freedom isn't being able to have whatever we crave. Freedom is going without whatever we crave and being fine with it."
-Rob Bell Sex God

I find it ironic that in such a technologically connected culture there are so many disconnected people. I'm talking about people, like myself, that stay connected to the world through their email accounts, myspace, RSS readers, and Blackberrys. The sad part is, although we have a connection to the world around us, we lose connection to people around us.
I seldom leave my computer at home. It's always with me, and I'm checking e-mail every chance I get. What if I focused those energies into something that would connect me with God and others? What difference would that make?
That's why I'm challenging myself to give up the internet every Tuesday. No emails, browsing, blogging, or feed reading. I'll still take care of my responsibilities at work and school, I'm just cutting out what I spend the majority of my time doing wasting and replacing it with something else.
If you consider this a challenge then, by all means, feel free to join in.

Well, that's it. I try not to get on my soapbox often, but this is just something that I've been thinking about.

Graduation has been moved to Newspring tomorrow due to the chance of rain.

I've been working GAMAC rehearsals all week, tonight's the show.
