15 Minutes in to my Vista experience.....this ad is oh so true.

mac virus

I just got a virus on my mac... it's called vista. You see, I have Adobe CS2 for Windows and I just shelled out a ton of cash on a MacBook Pro, so I can't afford to make the switch just yet. Why not XP? Well, I just so happened to have a spare Vista license (remember this post, yeah it was legit) and decided to save a little dough.

If anyone wants to save me from my peril, donations are welcome! :)

Bloglines Beta

Online feed reader Bloglines released a new beta page to the public. It features some cool drag and drop capabilities, and several different view options. If you're already a user of bloglines head to beta.bloglines.com, login, and update your bookmark :) If you're not a user, theres no better time than now to join in.

wow, 3 posts on a MONDAY! let's hope the rest of the week is as productive.

widgets

This week is going to be devoted to customizing my mac. First stop, widgets. here's what i have:

6 day weather outlook
doppler radar
calculator (used it more than once already)
beatfinder (very cool and useful for finding the tempo of a song)
calendar (not so useful, meant to get rid of it)
dashflix (tracks my netflix queue)
istat pro
stop dashboard (quits the dashboard completely to free up ram)

I need some good productivity widgets...
For all of the Mac users out there, what does your dock look like? Know of any good widgets I'm missing? Leave it in the comments.

Apples are Red

The mac has arrived. Here's a review in pics and screenshots (command + shift + 3... i love you)

Everyone knows that apples are supposed to be red. See for yourself.
Apples are Red
Cover made by speck. Very cool company, very cool colors... reminds me of the old iMac days.

Speaking of specs....
Macbook Pro 15"
160 GB 7200 rpm Hard Drive
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
A nice LED glossy display (i like the saturation)
oh and....

Here's my workspace.. click to see detailed notes.

Okay, so I'm a little proud... you would be too if you'd waited as long as I did. I might as well enjoy the feeling while it lasts (that is, whenever apple decides to update the line) :)

John Butler Trio

Here's my new favorite band, the John Butler Trio. You should introduce yourselves. Nice 'chill' music.

For a very well designed music video, check out the 'Official Clip' for "Better Than"

to write love on her arms

To Write Love On Her Arms, a cause that i support, has been named a finalist in the myspace Impact Awards. If they win, $10,000 will be given to them and they will get major publicity on the front page of Myspace. If you're willing to vote go to http://www.myspace.com/impactawards, look for the finalist box, and vote for TWLOHA. It's that simple. You can vote today, Thursday, and Friday.
Note: you do need a myspace account. even though i consider myspace the devil, in this case i can make an exception.

DC*B

i had the opportunity to work backstage at a david crowder concert last week. this pic pretty much says it all.
DCB keytar and gh2 controller
but wait, is that a guitar hero controller? yes it is. and yes, he played it in concert. The drummer, bwhack, reconfigured it to make it a midi controller for ableton live. we will be doing this at a beyond service very soon, i can promise that. here's a vid, not from the show i was at, but same concept.

and here's the infamous banjo

getaway part 2

while in the outer banks, we made a point to visit the lighthouses. our first stop was at cape hatteras
100_2304
then to ocracoke, blackbeard's island of choice
100_2357
then to bodie island
100_2371
as a final stop we went to the wright brothers national monument
100_2397
A quick history lesson. This is where the first flight took place. the rock to the far right was the starting point and the white column closest to it was the landing point. There were 3 more flights that day, each went further than the last. The 4th flight flew just shy of 900 ft (which was huge in 1903).

Along the way i picked up on a new hobby: patch collecting. I know it sounds lame, but it's not. All national parks, and some state parks have them. They're usually cheap (around $5) and it's a great way to remember the places you've been. I've collected 5 so far, and a quick look at eparks.com shows about 13 other places I've visited. I'm not sure how I'm going to display them yet. Maybe hang them in a shadow box separated by trip (outer banks, nc ---- washington d.c. --- charleston, sc --- etc)

getaway part 1

Monday of last week, the family took a trip up to bryson city, nc to camp and do some whitewater rafting.
Here's a shot of a stream right next to our site.

At the River's End Restaurant we enjoyed a nice hearty breakfast before rafting.

We returned back home late Tuesday night and left for the Outer Banks at 3am on Thursday. We arrived around noon and stayed in the town of Waves. The beaches there were unbelievable. Dunes intact, no overcrowded beaches, just perfect.
Sorry folks, Myrtle Beach has nothing on this.

It's really quite amazing how being away refreshes you. Just taking a break from the stresses of work and the like. I came home with a great outlook on the next few weeks with classes starting and such. Vacations simply rock, not to mention the quality time with family.
I'll conclude tomorrow with part 2

Conflict Resolution

Beyond's new series, 'Conflict Resolution,' started up today. This mini-series will take a look at the conflicts that people face from day to day, and apply biblical principles on how to resolve them.

Because this series is relatively short (3wks, we usually do 5-7) I went for something a little more simplistic for the opener. Enjoy.

On a sidenote, my vacation was awesome. Sorry about those 'mobile updates' i promised. Guess I'm not so crafty after all. In case you were wondering, I was planning to use flickr's 'upload by email' feature to publish to my blog, but i guess that didn't work. I kind of think it has something to do with alltel, or maybe my phone. Anyway, I will definitely post some pics tomorrow. If I don't, then you have permission to chase me down with a lightsaber......... hm... conflict resolution?
