then to ocracoke, blackbeard's island of choice

then to bodie island

as a final stop we went to the wright brothers national monument

A quick history lesson. This is where the first flight took place. the rock to the far right was the starting point and the white column closest to it was the landing point. There were 3 more flights that day, each went further than the last. The 4th flight flew just shy of 900 ft (which was huge in 1903).
Along the way i picked up on a new hobby: patch collecting. I know it sounds lame, but it's not. All national parks, and some state parks have them. They're usually cheap (around $5) and it's a great way to remember the places you've been. I've collected 5 so far, and a quick look at eparks.com shows about 13 other places I've visited. I'm not sure how I'm going to display them yet. Maybe hang them in a shadow box separated by trip (outer banks, nc ---- washington d.c. --- charleston, sc --- etc)
