It's Halloween night and much like last year I'm at work (no costume this time). Work is the same too: Wind Symphony concert in Henderson Auditorium with video game themed performance pieces. Nothing to do later tonight... I'm too old to trick or treat.

Gadget Corner
Today's gadget is the Eye-Fi. The Eye-Fi is a flash memory card with a Wi-Fi chip inside. From Boing-Boing:
As long as you remain in range of your computer's network, the Eye-Fi$100 for a 2 GB card. [Article] [Product Page]
will automatically transfer any image you snap to your computer, where
it can then be uploaded to the web manually or with the Eye-Fi
software. (And it would be simple to set up some automatic uploading
for instant uploads as soon as you take a snapshot if you wanted a
custom solution.)

Leopard and CS3
Just in case you were thinking about upgrading to Leopard, but reluctant because you want to keep CS3 running smoothly, Adobe published a compatibility report this week. (PDF here)
The Good News: Most applications run great.
The Bad News: After Effects and Premiere have workflow issues. :(
Adobe expects to fix this problem in December.
CS2 people - Adobe says that you are "Likely to encounter issues for which there is no resolution."

Sketchbook
Today I debut the 313tech Sketchbook. I will (hopefully) update these pages regularly with a random design. Some will be pretty, some won't. It's all about practice and helping myself become a better designer.
I've already uploaded a few pieces from this summer along with some current work. Check out today's piece, "Rock," in the Sketchbook.
Navigation is simple. Just click the image to advance pages. Most current work will be displayed first.

Snitter
I love my mac, but applications have been crashing alot lately. Ken mentioned a few weeks ago that Twitterific may be the issue. Sure enough I searched the web and found several cases of people that have been having issues with the program.
Enter Snitter.
Snitter is "an Adobe AIR-powered application for twittering." It's basically Twitterific, but with some extra features. Best of all, I haven't had any crashes since changing over.

85 in 1
I believe in having the right tool for the job, but this is a little much. Wenger has released a version of their famous knives that incorporates all 85 tools that are currently produced.

Onesize - 3:19 Sequence
I am absolutely loving the title sequence for 3:19. Thank you, Onesize, for such great work.
See it here.

Textures
Found a very nice texture library over at Dinpattern. Full of nice 'old-english' style patterns. Definitely worth a look.

The Next Level
It's almost time to add a few more projects to the work page. I have an FCA Leadership video that's been tucked away for a while and I just completed a piece for NewSpring's student ministry. Expect to see it around the beginning of next month.
With all of the projects that seem to be headed my way, I believe that it's time that I take this stuff more seriously. When I made the decision to get into this field I wanted it to be solely for the glory of God. I wanted to be a tool for God to use to bring people to Him. A few months later, it seemed as if I'd forgotten that. I started thinking about all of the great things I could do; it became about me, not Him. Over the course of the last week God has reminded me of the purpose that He has for me. I truly enjoy what I do. I don't know if this is what He wants me to do over the course of my life, but in this moment I'm where I need to be. I will follow Him where ever He leads. Isaiah 43:7 says that "everyone who is called by my name, I created for my glory." I exist for no other reason than to glorify Him. I am both excited and humbled by this fact.
In the blogging world, it's quite easy to hide behind the mask of the keyboard. People generally take what you say at face value, but I truly want to live out what I'm writing tonight, and with it bring the excellence and passion that He provides.
With all of that said, here's what I originally sat down to blog about. I'm looking for ways to "beef-up" my design knowledge. I did a little research into popular books and I found a couple written by Jim Krause. "Creative Sparks" and "Design Basics Index" I ordered the books from Amazon and they should be here sometime next week. I am very excited about taking my skills to the next level.

Street Fighter IV
Keeping in spirit of the flashback post from earlier this week, here's an exciting trailer for upcoming Street Fighter IV.
Is he serious?
No, really? Stephen Colbert for president? I love his show. I wonder how it would look live from the oval office...

Adobe Icons
If you're like me, and can't stand CS3's periodic table look, or perhaps the new photoshop logo doesn't suit your taste, these icons by Adam Betts should be refreshing.

Flashback - SNES
I'm campaining for an Xbox 360 this Christmas season (mostly so I can play Halo 3). Until then I'll just enjoy this ad.
"3-D Graphics.. 32,000 colors...." priceless.

"...and we're back"
whew... it's been a rough week in my blogging world. First I move my site to a new directory, but end up changing the rss feed address. (new one here). Then I decided to try and speed up my pageload time by clearing a few unnecessary files, alas, the madness continued. Late last night I was rearranging some files (click,... drag... click...drag) then all of a sudden one, misplaced keystroke deleted my blog. (oops). At least I had a backup.
A few good things did happen. I upgraded the mysql database from 4.0 to 5.0 (I think this is where the speed issue was, but I can't be certain.) and upgraded Wordpress to 2.3. A little disclaimer: Twitter Tools, in it's current version, won't allow you to categorize a daily digest blog post in WP 2.3--- 2.3 added native tagging support and changed the way categories are arranged in your database. Fortunately, the TechDadBlog has a workaround.
All in all the site is running much faster now and hopefully that'll mean more people stick around.

CS3
I finally ordered my copy of Adobe's Production Premium for MAC today. (my 30 day trial has almost expired). It should be here by Friday. Looking at the tracking data, it says my package is 19lbs. They must throw in a complimentary dumbbell.
