I found this out by accident. I like to use Command + W to close application windows, but still keep the application running in the background. However, if you have multiple tabs open in Firefox and use the shortcut, it will close the current tab. It beats clicking the x with the mouse. Sweet!
If you accidentally close a tab- Cmd+Shift+T will reopen it. Also, Cmd+"#" (# = 1-9) will switch to that numbered tab.
